The Bania – Merchants: Empty and Unreached,

Filmed  2004 and 2006

The Bania (BUN-yah) is a merchant class of people who live throughout India.  Most of these 22 million people are in the northern part of the country.  However, about one million claim the state of Karnatoka in southern India as their home.  A large portion lives in Bangalore, the capital city, with a population of over 6 ½ million.  Known as the Garden City of India, it is said to be among the fastest growing cities in Asia.  Due to its leadership in the technological revolution sweeping the country, it is also referred to as the “Silicon Valley” of India.

Note: Chapters marked HD are available  as High definition video.  Find out more.

The Bania of India– Merchants:  Empty and Unreached  HD  9:02   Nearly all of the Bania claim Hindu as their religion but, as merchants, they have chosen gods that reflect their profession.  In particular, they worship Laxmi, the god of wealth, and Ganesh, the god of good fortune, but many have chosen another god – the god of money.  This is a god that they worship; a god that drives their lives, a god that leaves them with an empty heart.  Everything depends on acquiring wealth.

As Americans, we appear out of place in this culture.  We wait in line to take a short ride with those we don’t know and by methods that are strange.  In God’s time, the journey is only for a moment, long enough to facilitate the development of rapidly reproducing churches among the Bania.  We can then leave knowing that the glory of the Lord will soon reign among the Bania.

Join us in fervent prayer claiming the promise found in Habakkuk 2:14: “For the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord, as the waters of the sea”.

Earnestly pray that it would be so among the Bania People of India as their hearts and lives are filled with the love, joy, and peace of knowing Jesus personally.

Animated Maps  HD  2:19  Provides geographic information about India and the religious demographics of the country of India with emphasis on the population profiles of the Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs.

The following 4 chapters are from DVD’s of India and Bangladesh produced by CRF Media.  They will help in understanding the people and religious systems of India.

Karma - Hanging in the Balance of Life  6:04
In Mumbai, the cow is sacred .
A cow is fed, touched and worshipped.
When a man or woman worships a cow, their good karma is increased.
Karma … good and bad deeds hanging in the balance of life.

These Hindus have made a sacrifice.  They have worshipped.  They have done a good deed.  Their good karma has been increased.  However, just as the cow will need to be fed again, so it is with their karma balance.

The Hindus need to hear the words of Jesus, “I am the way, and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.”

Empty Devotion – The Hindus   10:21   Hindus are taught there is the possibility of being reincarnated to a higher position in life. Listen and learn more about this religion of empty devotion.

Created Equal – In Search of TRUTH  7:15   Mumbai is home to multitudes from across India.  People from nearly every culture in the country find their residence somewhere in Mumbai.

All of these cultures are impacted by the now outlawed caste system by which they are affected in every way, including employment, marriage, social status and, … much more deeply, … religious convictions, their morality and their collective political sensibilities.  Caste affects their dreams and ambitions, priorities and goals.   Upon caste rests justice and public conscience, immorality and corruption.  Determined by karma and past reincarnations, caste is a discriminator of persons, a scale of human worth.  They believe themselves to be created unequal.

In truth, God creates them equal.  It is a truth they do not yet understand.  A truth they have never experienced.

Search for the Supreme Being  15:36  In Mumbai, some say that there are 330 million gods … while others say there is NO god.  … Some say that people are not created equal … and others say that there is no caste and ALL are created equal. Some religious orders have many overlapping and complimentary beliefs  … and others are in stark conflict resulting in occasional serious social unrest.   Each group tenaciously forms a seemingly impenetrable cocoon around themselves, their beliefs, and customs.
